Dancers in Iraq

Mona, who helped organize and also danced in the wonderful concert of international dance we performed in just before I went to Camp Casey, passed along this article about the valiant dancers of the Iraqi National Folklore Group.

I admire their courage and find this yet another reason to stop this terrible war.

A friend who is a mideastern dancer and well connected in that field says that dancers in Iraq have been arrested and jailed for dancing.

Lena remarked that even in these terrible times the Iraqi dancers are paid $140.00. Most dancers in this country are not paid at all and certainly not by the government. Shows a difference in the value placed on art.

I am concerned also about the art and the archeological sites that the US invasion and occupation have destroyed forever.

I am so sorry to hear that they were arrested! What a world we live in. I was shocked too, to hear that they were paid $140. Obviously there are people in Iraq that have very opposing views about all aspects of life.
